Spanning nearly 6,000 square feet, the SVVS Temple harmonizes sacred tradition with modern engineering.

• Our Deities: Our main deity is Sri Satyanarayana, housed in a traditional Annavaram-style structure. The temple also features dedicated sanctums for Lord Vishnu (Venkateswara) and Lord Shiva.
• Sacred Craftsmanship: Our deities were hand-carved from the resonant granites of Mahabalipuram, India, by certified master artisans carrying forward generations of sacred tradition.
• A Place for Inquiry: For younger generations, our temple is an invitation to explore how spirituality and science coexist, and how timeless values remain relevant in a rapidly changing world.

1995

Humble beginnings:

Incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1993, the SVVS Temple traces its roots to a small Ganesha shrine and a simple 500-square-foot pavilion built to serve the growing Hindu community of Greater New Orleans. The temple's Ganesha idol was brought from India and consecrated under the guidance of Sri Thanga Bhattar of Madurai, who later served as Chief Priest for 27 years. What began as a modest gathering place has since grown into one of the region's most important centers for worship, culture, and community.

2019–2021

The Rebuild:

As our community grew, we broke ground on a massive rebuilding project. Constructing a traditional Hindu temple in Louisiana required a decade of preparation to overcome unique challenges:

• Securing Land: Assembling adjacent residential lots over 10 years.
• Local Governance: Navigating complex land-use, zoning, and strict construction permits.
• Louisiana Climate: Engineering the building for stormwater drainage and full hurricane-proofing.
• Design: Integrating sacred icons into a modern facade using long-lasting materials and solar features.

2021

The Consecration:

In May 2021, we celebrated the historic completion of the main sanctuary. The traditional consecration ceremonies (Kumbhabhishekam) extended over several weeks.

Conducted under the guidance of our world-renowned Head Priest, Dr. Thanga Bhattar, we were joined by 20 senior priests from across the country and over a thousand devotees to witness these once-in-a-lifetime rites.

< 2023

Expanding Inclusion:

We integrated a new Shirdi Sai Baba Mandir to the complex, further promoting diversity and unity. Also include the community hall which includes inner and outer dining halls, a community kitchen, large meeting room, and temporary accomodation facilities. The exterior spaces include landscaped grounds and a modern OM sculpture that was graciously donated to the temple.

Our fully operational core facilities currently include the main sanctuary and adjoining pavilion, the Shirdi Sai Baba Mandir, a community hall, landscaped grounds, and on-site priest quarters. As a living institution built to grow, our exciting upcoming phases include:

1. The Grand Entrance: A decorative, covered colonnade leading to the main sanctuary.
2. Expanded Facilities: A larger event pavilion and a traditional Yagasala.
3. Community Spaces: An indoor auditorium for cultural arts, administrative offices, and additional housing.

The consecrated deities of the temple are arranged in harmony with traditional Hindu sacred architecture, canonical history, and philosophical teachings. The temple and its principal sanctums face east, following the long-established convention of orienting worship toward the rising sun and the dawn of spiritual illumination.

• Lord Satyanarayana: Worshiped in the Annavaram tradition, He embodies ultimate truth and the unifying grace of the sacred Trinity—Brahma, Shiva, and Vishnu. As the central deity, Lord Satyanarayana anchors the temple and blesses devotees with spiritual strength, harmony, and material well-being. 
• Lord Satyanarayana is accompanied by Goddess Satyavathi and Muga Linga.
  

The Southern Axis: Sustenance and Devotion

• Lord Venkateswara:Located in the southern sanctum, on the left side, facing east. Lord Venkateswara represents sustenance, compassionate grace, refuge, and both spiritual and material well-being. 
• Lord Hanuman:Positioned facing Lord Venkateswara. He embodies pure devotion (bhakti), strength, humility, and surrender. His placement symbolizes steadfast service and the protective force guiding devotees. 

The Northern Axis: Transformation and Cosmic Order

• Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi: Located in the northern sanctum, on the right side, facing east, they are enshrined as the Shiva Lingam and Parvathi, representing the sacred union of Meenakshi and Sundareswarar. Together, they express transformation, divine union, consciousness, and dynamic energy. 
• Lord Ganesha and Lord Muruga:Positioned as guardians at the entrance of the Shiva sanctum. These divine brothers represent wisdom, courage, and spiritual victory. Lord Ganesha removes obstacles, while Lord Muruga grants focus, discipline, and the strength to overcome challenges. 
• The Navagrahas: Located in the northern zone in front of the Shiva sanctum. The nine planetary deities symbolize cosmic order and karmic influence. Under the protective presence of Lord Shiva, the master of time and destiny, devotees seek balance and relief from adverse planetary influences. 

• Sri Shirdi Sai Baba (Sadguru Shrine):Represented by a life-size, east-facing white marble statue placed on a raised marble platform within a peaceful, dedicated sanctum. 
• Under the Sacred Pipal Tree:Shrines dedicated to Nagadevatha and Karpaka Vinayakar. 
• Outdoor Garden Altar:A beautiful marble depiction of Adhi Yogi Shiva. 

The Utsavar deities are brought forward during festivals, chariot processions, and community rituals, extending divine blessings directly to devotees. They are positioned beautifully on either side of the center sanctum:

The inner sanctum exteriors are adorned with the traditional vigrahas of Mahalakshmi (South), Saraswathi (West), Nataraja (West), and Chandikeshwara (North).
